I am having some issues diagnosing the reason as to why some of my BRrips are allowing me to direct play to my Roku 2 (2015 model) and some are having me direct stream--thereby requiring my Plex server to transcode on the fly. It was my understanding that the Roku 2 supports DTS 5.1 natively. As an example from my testing, I can play a lossless .mkv rip of Casino Royale via direct play on the DTS 5.1 audio channel, but if I try to play Inception using the same settings it requires transcoding. Here's a rundown of my setup to give you a clearer picture:

• PMS running on my gaming rig in my office connected via ethernet
• Roku 2 (2015) connected to my TV in my living room via HDMI and connected to my network via ethernet
• TV connected to a soundbar via optical audio

I know I currently don't have a 5.1 setup, but I would like to still maintain a lossless playback experience. What seems to be the constraining factor in my current setup? Do I need a 5.1 receiver?
Note: if I select force direct play on my roku, it appears to attempt to direct play but then reverts back to transcoding. And if I look at the Activity section on my Plex Media Manager, it says it's direct playing. At first I'm thinking, "Yay, it's working!" But I then go into my windows Task Manager and "PlexNewTranscoder" is definitely up and running (hovering around 25-40%).
Sorry for the long winded post, but I wanted to be as thorough as possible. Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions!
Edit: It looks like my the VC-1 video codec was not playing nice with my Roku thereby making Plex transcode it into a compatible format. Some Blu-ray discs are encoded in VC-1 rather than mpeg4
