A guide to buying used gear with confidence. (Short checklist in the comments)

Chances are if you clicked on this post, you’re looking to buy either your first or second bass and you’re not really sure what to look for. There are a lot of options out there, and every bass is a little different, and if you’re buying used, there are plenty of people who will try to take advantage of you. But fret not! See what I did there. Basses have frets...Anyway, I am here to arm you with the information you need! This is AMP’s Guide to Buying a Bass With Confidence. In this guide, I’ll explain everything you should inspect and consider before you pull the trigger on a purchase so that you know that the bass you buy is a good one. These points will apply to new and used, cheap or expensive so it doesn’t matter what your budget or preferences are. This brings me to my first point:
1. Avoid buying online.
The only way to really know if a bass is any good is get your hands on it. Just really get in there and explore every nook and cranny.
Buying online is like playing the lottery. You might win, but odds are you’ll lose. The only bass I bought online came from a guy on TalkBass. My thinking was that if I bought from someone who was the type to be on TalkBass, that it was probably a decent bass and my gamble paid off. Unlike what happened with my uncle. But that’s not the sort of thing I would count on. If at all possible, get your hands on the bass. Be aware that even if two basses are the exact same model, they will be different from each other so it’s important you buy the bass you play and not just one of the same model. If that’s not possible, you might as well stop reading this post right now because you probably won’t be able to do any of the other things I’m gonna talk about. That's how important trying a bass before you buy is.
2. Play through a familiar amp
Whenever you go to a music store, it’s tempting to plug your bass into the biggest baddest amp they have, but that’s going to make your bass sound very different from how it will sound on your own rig. If possible, bring your own amp so you can get the most accurate impression of how the bass sounds. If I don’t bring an amp, I will usually try to play through an Ampeg or a Fender combo amp at a shop because I’m familiar with how those sound. I know that if I like the way the bass sounds on those amps, I’ll like it when I get home. Also make sure that you set the controls flat on the amp, meaning that you have the EQ set with everything at noon. What this means is that you neither boosting nor cutting any frequencies. That will give you the best and most honest representation of what the bass sounds like with the least amount of influence from the amp. It will also help you understand what the basses on-board controls do.
3. Thoroughly check all the controls
Depending on what kind of a bass you have, the controls can either be very simple or very complicated. Regardless, you’ll want to make sure you know what each knob does and make sure that they do what they’re supposed to. P basses are easy because it’s just volume, which is obvious, and tone, which is a high frequency cut. Other basses will have full on 3 band EQ, pickup selectors, active and passive modes to switch between, power windows, cruise control, all wheel drive...But anyway, if you’re not sure what the knobs do and you can’t tell what they do by fiddling around with them, look up your bass’s model number online. For example, this Ibanez bass has, if I’m counting correctly, 3000 knobs. But if you look it up on the Ibanez website, they have this handy diagram that tells you exactly what they all do. Make sure they all work and don’t crackle and pop as you move them around. They should feel secure and smooth as well. If the controls wiggle or are loose, that can be problematic to your electronics. They're not really controls, but you should also make sure the tuning keys feel good. They also should be smooth, but solid, and stay put once the bass is tuned.
4. Check the neck
The neck of a bass is at least 50% of the bass, and the part you’re actually touching the most. Making sure that it’s straight and properly set up is critical. One of the first things I do when I start playing a bass is run my hand up and down both sides of the neck to make sure the fret edges aren’t sharp. If they cut up your hand, you’ll probably need first aid and a tetanus shot. You should also check how straight the neck is. If you hold the bass kinda like a violin, you can look down the bass from the bridge and compare the curve of the neck to the strings. You’ll be able to tell how much curvature is in the neck. The strings will be 100% straight from the bridge to the nut so any anomalies in the neck should be easy to see from this angle. There should be only a very slight curve upward and it should be very consistent the whole way up. If it’s more curved on one side that it is on the other, then the neck is warped and that is not easy to fix with just a set up. Speaking of which, if the set up is bad, meaning that the strings are really far away from the neck, or really anything else that makes the bass feel bad or hard to play then you can always ask the shop if they’ll work on it. They might say no, but it doesn’t hurt to ask. I’ve pointed out poor fret dressing on basses and they’ve taken the bass to their tech to fix so that’s definitely something a shop can, and frankly should, do. A small part of buying a bass is knowing how much you can correct with a bit of tweaking the adjustments, but frankly, if it doesn’t feel great before you buy it, then it’s probably not the bass for you.
5. Take your time
I absolutely do not advocate for impulse purchases. Do your research online to make sure you know what kind of bass you’re looking for, what kinds of tones you enjoy, and what your budget is. If possible, you should take a few days between trying out a bass and actually pulling the trigger on it. A second pass on a bass might reveal flaws you may have overlooked the first time. Giving yourself time to digest things and not feeling the pressure to buy will make sure that you don’t regret your purchase. A bass guitar is a deeply personal thing and you want to be excited and happy with your instrument so that you’ll be motivated to play it.
If you follow all these tips to the letter, I can guarantee that you’ll go home with a good bass. But also, don’t be afraid to flip a bass if you find that it doesn’t do it for you anymore. People buy and sell instruments all the time and used instruments don’t easily lose their value. A used bass you buy for $500 will likely be worth about the same a year later if you find you don’t like it as much as when you first bought it. You’re not married to your gear. Unless you are. Lost a couple thousand on an online casino this last week and after logging into my bank account to assess the damage I realized all the charges were disguised through shell corporations and front businesses and I'm wondering if I can chargeback without legal repercussion???

I wont reveal the casino directly but for context it's based in the Caribbean and is owned by some Chinese conglomerate of sorts. It ranks highly online and multiple sources claim it's safe so I didn't question it's legitimacy especially since it's a professional looking site with nice graphics and live dealers and all. It wasn't until I deposited more money than I'd like to admit in increments and finally checked my bank account in despair after losing it all that I realized the payment processing was handled by multiple third party ecommerce businesses and the like. Not only that but a few of the charges were labeled as being sent to individuals directly with common sounding almost stereotypical Chinese names instead of businesses like "Zhou Wei" or "Hui Chang" One charge in particular was labeled as a website address for an Alibaba looking site that sells "mobile signal boosters" and was identified by google as "not secure" and warned me that I shouldn't enter any personal info as it could be compromised.
So this leads me to the inevitable question: Would it be safe for me to request chargebacks and claim partial fraud or even complete ignorance and let it play out? (Which would be ideal so i can recoup) Moral judgement and gambling addiction advice aside if it is the case that this casino is disguising itself from banks and using third party fronts in what I'm assuming to be a money laundering operation, would they risk revealing themselves and countering my banks investigation? And yes technically I did in fact authorize the payments to the casino and they have my name, home address, and ip if they do choose to counter but I never agreed to have my card details covertly ran through shell corporations and front businesses especially ones deemed illegitimate by google and not only that but i was charged a 5%-15% hidden fee on every transaction by the third parties. So for example what should of been a flat $500 deposit in exchange for the equivalent in casino credit came out to $547.32 unbeknownst to me and I was charged a foreign transaction fee on top of that. I don't want to get busted for chargeback fraud but if the casino itself is fraudulent (And also operated outside the USA on some small sketchy island nation run by criminals based in china) can I get away with it, moreover would it even be getting away with anything if I'm the victim here at least in part.

A trip down 2020 memory lane

As we wrap up 2020, I like to look back on this year's community pennystock picks as a fun retrospective. I encourage anyone to comment and share their experiences as well! I'm a big believer that going back and looking at historical trades as a method to continue to evolve as a trader. Things like price action, conviction, research and entry/exit points are all critical in becoming a better stock trader.
This post ended up being a lot longer than I anticipated, and there are a few more stocks I wanted to include here that won't fit into my original post. So I'll probably follow up this post with a comment below with a few more pennystocks that were hype on this sub that I bought and learned from.

Here are a few of the rides I was on in 2020:

Ticker: DECN
When did you buy in: Apr 20
Why did you buy in: I saw the price action on DECN and it looked like the price had found a floor at 0.18 on a pullback. There was still pending news on the release of some test results, and rumours of a COVID test kit. This was the first pennystock I purchased ever, and it was a HUGE learning experience.
Entry share price: 0.18
Exit share price: 0.35
Catalyst for growth: Speculating on at home COVID test kit.
Outcome: Well, I think everyone knows how this went. The stock spiked to 0.48 on Apr 23 before falling off a cliff. Trading was halted, and stabilized at 0.35 before crashing again. Then by the end of the day, the SEC showed up and halted all trading on DECN because of potential fraud with their COVID test kit announcement. I think DECN was a trial by fire for many newcomers to this sub. I was one of the lucky few that got out early and was in pennystocks as just a casino style gambling machine, not as long term value proposition. DECN is now trading at 0.02, and i would stay as far away from it as possible.
Lesson Learned: Buy the rumour, sell the news! I think this was my first harsh introduction to OTC markets, the speed of pump and dumps, and the threat of bag holding. I'm really glad I was able to exit on the right side of this, but it made me incredibly weary of all future OTC buys, learning my lesson that the vast majority of pennystocks are garbage.

Ticker: MVIS
When did you buy in: May 5
Why did you buy in: I was trying to replicate my DECN success but this time I was chasing a pump prior to earnings call on a rumour that MVIS was going to be acquired by MSFT.
Entry share price: 1.50
Exit share price: 0.75
Catalyst for growth: Buy out by MSFT by some internet stranger here on /pennystocks
Outcome: Well, I got out very early, essentially one day after I bought because the news on the earnings report was so uninspiring that I thought the stock was dead. Well, we all know what happened afterwards!
Lesson learned: This one is funny, because it taught me about when to bag hold and when to not bag hold. But this is the tricky part. On May 8, after the earnings report, MVIS fell from 1.50 to 0.60 before recovering and stabilizing to 0.90. This taught me the big threat of "weak hands" as well as pennystock price volatility. I saw my initial investment lose 65% of value within minutes, and it scared me to sell off. If I just had been more convicted on the company, I would have broken even within 4 weeks, and actually doubled my initial investment within 8 weeks. This taught me a big thing about buying rumour and selling news, but also more importantly about a company with a real product. MVIS was actually making hardware for advanced computer vision, and sure they were in hard shape, but they actually had a product that was bringing in revenue. They weren't an OTC, and seemed legit. Obviously, hindsight is 20/20, but this taught me two big things: 1. Don't chase a pumping stock prior to earnings. If you are, set stop losses and less right before the earnings report. 2. Decide whether you're swing trading for a quick gain or investing for longer term. The two are incompatible in my opinion, because with swing trading you'll set aggressive stop losses and be happy with gains vs time. Investing is much more about maximizing the percentage gain on a holding with conviction.

Ticker: TLSS
When did you buy in: May 11
Why did you buy in: Posts on this sub about debt consolidation and a new CEO that turned around Coach USA from a $100M company to a $1B company.
Entry share price: 0.02
Exit share price: 0.08
Catalyst for growth: Pure speculation and pump.
Outcome: Wow, this was a ride. This was the first time I remember opening up my account and seeing a 10x return. TLSS had hit 0.20 on the morning of May 27 and it had stabilized there for 3 days! I didn't sell because I thought this was the start of something big. Ya...it was the start of a big mistake! TLSS cratered after that, falling all the way down to 0.05 and then slowly bleeding out over the next 5 months.
Lesson learned: When you see a 10x return on an OTC pennystock, be wary of why the stock went up. If it doesn't have good legs behind why the stock is all of a sudden worth 10x its valuation, then take your profits and run!

Ticker: SPI
When did you buy in: May 26
Why did you buy in: I saw some random pump on stocktwits about this stock and it looked stable with a floor.
Entry share price: 0.75
Exit share price: 0.96
Catalyst for growth: No catalyst, was just using random internet stranger advice.
Outcome: I was initially happy with my 30% gains!
Lesson learned: Well, SPI is trading at $8 right now after they announced they're buying Phoenix Motor Cars. But back in May, when bought SPI, they looked like a super shady shell company. Their website looked like it was made in 2012. It had information about solar panels and weed growing ops. They were head quartered out of Hong Kong. They put out almost no news. This didn't seem like a legit company, but I thought I could flip them for a quick 20% gain with minimal time and effort. If I had known they were a more compelling operation, I would have held long term. I don't think there's a lesson here. SPI was a lottery ticket, and I think people who were holding got lucky.

Ticker: OZSC
When did you buy in: May 28
Why did you buy in: There were good posts on this sub about a potential merger, increased revenue streams, a big government contract and good new management.
Entry share price: 0.025
Exit share price: 0.0405
Catalyst for growth: Speculation on some potential government deals.
Outcome: I went in thinking this is a pump and dump, and I had learned my lesson after DECN. As a result, I was getting out with 100% gains and not looking back. I think anyone who is still holding OZSC knows that this was a lot of smoke and mirrors. People tried to chase this and got burned.
Lesson learned: When it comes to buying OTC, always be incredibly wary. For every ALPP, there are hundreds of OZSC and DECN.

Ticker: XSPA
When did you buy in: June 9
Why did you buy in: There was so much hyper and momentum on this sub about how XSPA was going to open up in New Jersey airport, then every other airport. And that they were set up to take over the entire COVID testing apparatus!
Entry share price: 2.1
Exit share price: 2.7....but after a 3-for-1 reverse split...so actually 0.9
Catalyst for growth: Rumours of XSPA being the
Outcome: Well, this is the biggest turd of all my investments. So many people were able to play XSPA back in early June for huge gains. I thought I could ride the lightning on a second wave of good luck! But this thing was stupid, and I ended up costing me dearly.
Lesson learned: Don't believe the hype on stocks that are too good to be true. Think about macro factors. XSPA slowly bled out, and I got out after realizing that there was no hope for recovery. I sold at a 50% loss and redeployed my remaining funds to recover my losses. I hate this stock and everything it stands for.

Ticker: IDEX
When did you buy in: Jun 10
Why did you buy in: Lots of rumours of them releasing an electric car fleet in China! Also, claims that people had personal conversations with the CEO Alf Poor and how he was the real deal! But mostly because IDEX had found an amazing price floor at 1.10 and had been trading sideways for weeks on end at that price. I know people in this sub were incredibly wary of a stock that was manipulated so perfectly, to always trade within 2% of its price floor, but I saw it more as a way to ensure a floor.
Entry share price: 1.11
Exit share price: 1.60
Catalyst for growth: IDEX blew up based on pictures they released of a potential show floor for their electric car environment in China.
Outcome: Well, I think after DECN and maybe GNUS, IDEX may have the most bag holders of any stock in this sub.
Lesson learned: Be wary of any stocks dealing with business in China. I remember watching IDEX go up to 3.20 and I regretted selling so soon! I wish I had just held and squeezed more out of that stock. But then I watched IDEX crap itself down the toilet over the next 3 days, falling all the way back down to 0.92 based on the Citron release that indicated that IDEX was a sham company.

Ticker: CLIS
When did you buy in: Jun 18
Why did you buy in: The launch of their app was supposed to revolution online gambling and with DKNG and PENN pumping, they could see some real sympathy. Also, their stock pumped to 0.20 just based on hype of their app. Imagine the share price when the app actually releases!
Entry share price: 0.24, then DCA'd down to 0.07
Exit share price: 0.02
Catalyst for growth: The release of their app
Outcome: Well, their app sucked and their stock sucks.
Lesson learned: Do not chase pumps. This stock is by single biggest loser, as I ended up losing about 80% on this turd. The lucky part is that I didn't go in hard, as I didn't fundamentally believe in the product. But its still a big shot to the ego getting wrapped up in the hype. I hate CLIS, and this stock has made me incredibly wary of OTC. I think CLIS (and OZSC) is a big reason why I was so hesitant of following ALPP despite all the hype and good news.

Ticker: CLSK
When did you buy in: June 26
Why did you buy in: Rumours of a Walmart partnership and a potential revenue windfall.
Entry share price: 2.28
Exit share price: 3.10
Catalyst for growth: There were rumours that CLSK's microgrid controller was going to be used at every Walmart ever. There were faux emails floating around on this sub from someone who claims they spoke to CLSK IR and got the inside scoop, but this was followed up with other members of this sub emailing CLSK IR to verify and CLSK ended up denying the rumours. The stock pumped to 3.50 before falling back down, stabilizing then going on a huge 10x rally over the next 4 months.
Outcome: CLSK is currently trading at $29 on the strength of their expanded product portfolio and great PR. They have lots of international customers that are using their microgrid controller, and they recently used their share offering to purchase a bitcoin mining operation that is helping them generate an additional $7M a year in revenue.
Lesson learned: When you find a company that has a legitimate product, with real leadership, have some conviction and hold the stock for more than just a 20% flip. I could have been up 10x but instead I settled for a quick 40% flip because I was scared of bag holding.

RKS USA is a company based in Florida that sells a lot of HK things. There is nowhere online to review them, so I want to put this here, and hope people see it:
Back in September(ish) I bought (or attempted to buy) a Hensoldt G36 3x Optic Carry Handle. I go to their website, it says "In Stock" and I click buy. Ouch my wallet.
After a couple of weeks, I receive no updates, and email them to find out what's going on. Their response was " By you order number I estimate will be ready to ship maybe at the end of the next week, and "may be" because it we depend of how much orders we are able to process to reduce the delays. "
Okay, sounds fair, I'll wait. I email them again 2 weeks later to ask if we're still on track. This time I get " you should expect the shipping about the end of the next week. "
I email them again at the end of the next week and they responded with "There are delays with the inbound orders ". I asked them why it was marked as in-stock if it was on order. They responded with (paraphrased) "we don't know where it is either, it was due to be received at our warehouse".
No further clarification was offered. Please beware, I know HK and G36 stuff is hard to get, but at least gamble somewhere less deceptive.

Dave opens with a brief history of the cursed Hart family before going into the latest story, that Bret Hart has suffered a stroke. Hart suffered a blood clot on the right side of his brain, causing temporary paralysis on the left side of his body after hitting the back of his head on a rock following a bicycle accident. Hart was going down a hill and not wearing a helmet when he hit a hole on the bike path and flew over the handlebars. He distinctly remembers the accident, hitting the ground, and being unable to get up. He was able to call his ex-wife Julie on his cell phone and help was summoned. At the hospital 12 hours later, doctors determined he had suffered a stroke. His back is still in great pain but as of press time, he's made a lot of progress and is able to use his left leg again. At one point, that went away and he wasn't even able to wiggle his toes, but the feeling has since come back. He still has no control over his left arm however. But doctors are optimistic that he'll be able to walk out of the hospital on his own power eventually. Doctors are saying they don't believe the stroke was related to his concussion history at the moment, but more tests are being done. He does have a family history of strokes, as Helen Hart suffered several in her final days. He's currently bedridden or using a wheelchair and will have to re-learn how to walk again. While they do expect him to walk again, a full 100% recovery from something like this is a bit more rare, so he may have lifelong lingering effects. On WWE's website, Jim Ross wished him well and even Vince McMahon chimed in, giving a comment to the Calgary Sun saying, "Despite our differences of opinions, I respect him. Bret's contributions to the WWE are enormous and everyone thinks very highly of him" and wished Hart well.
WWE's latest business reports are out and shows that, despite the downturn in business, WWE is still doing just fine financially. Even though they're facing 5-year lows when it comes to attendance and TV ratings, the previous quarter was the largest grossing quarter in company history (due to the success of Wrestlemania and a lot of international touring). Even though the popularity of the product is down, between merchandise, licensing deals, etc. WWE has figured out how to milk more money out of a smaller fanbase via other avenues. Plus, every time business in the U.S. goes down, they're able to tour more overseas to make up for it. During the bad mid-90s years, as terrible as things got in the U.S., they were still doing huge business overseas and those tours were vital in sustaining the company during those times. There was a lot of talk about international expansion this week, which means that's probably the plan again. And even with declining ratings, WWE is still the top rated show for TNN and UPN, but despite the high ratings, neither shows are strong moneymakers for the networks because wrestling still has a negative reputation among sponsors. So it will need to sustain higher ratings than most shows would in order to stave off cancellation, but there's no danger of that yet. Ratings haven't gotten that bad.
During the investors call, Linda McMahon blamed competition from shows such as The Osbournes, Fear Factor, Spongebob, and Survivor as contributing to the falling ratings. All of those shows do higher ratings than WWE, but for those keeping track, Survivor is the only one that even airs head-to-head against WWE. The other 3 are on different days at different times and have zero bearing on WWE's ratings. Linda McMahon also blamed video games for the declining ratings, as if those are a new phenomenon that didn't exist last year. The departure of Steve Austin was completely avoided until someone outright asked about it, at which Linda said that Austin is currently suspended for conduct reasons and said it would only have a short-term impact and noted that new stars like RVD, Chris Jericho, Booker T, and Brock Lesnar are being pushed to take his place. She noted that WWE made a flat $2 million from Rock's involvement in Scorpion King because he's under WWE contract and they will also make a portion of the profits on the back-end. Anyway, the rest of this is "blah blah blah revenue is down such-and-such % from last year." So just imagine a bunch of big numbers in 2001 and then imagine all those same numbers, but smaller, in 2002. See, easy peasy!
XWF has just about thrown in the towel. After a lengthy meeting this week, the powers that be pretty much realized that it's going to be all but impossible to get this promotion off the ground. After shooting 10 episodes last year, they've spent much of this year trying to secure a television deal without success. In the TV industry, despite the success of WWE, wrestling is seen as a fad that was hot for a while but has since died out. XWF's last-ditch effort was with WGN in Chicago, a local station that does have some national coverage. But it would have cost them $300,000+ just to pay for 5 episodes to air. Buying TV time is what has killed other promotions in the past and XWF wasn't making enough on live shows to pay that cost. Plus, WWE's success has changed what a national promotion is expected to look like. If networks are going to put you on their TV, they want you to have big budget production, pyro, effects, etc. Nobody other than WWE can afford to do that and everyone else looks minor league in comparison because of it. Bottom line, it's pretty much impossible to run a profitable wrestling company on a national level without a strong TV deal to off-set the costs. And it's impossible to get that TV deal without having the money to put together a big budget product that can attract them. Officially, XWF isn't folding completely just yet, though all the wrestlers have been released from contracts and most of the employees have been cut as well. The plan for now still seems to be to sell the original tapings overseas and try to follow up by running a tour over there with many of those same stars. But those tapes are a year old. Hogan and Lawler are back in WWE, and a lot of the footage already feels dated. And they obviously won't be able to bring Hogan on the tour. European fans can just wait for WWE to come if they want that. So needless to say, this is pretty much the end of the road for XWF.
The second NWA-TNA show is in the books and was highlighted by an incredible 4-way main event of Low-Ki vs. Jerry Lynn vs. AJ Styles vs. Psicosis that Dave says was every bit of 4.5 stars. But the rest of the show was an embarrassment. Don West is enthusiastic but adds nothing else as a commentator and Ed Ferrara is obnoxious enough to make you want to change the channel on a show you paid for. Furthermore, the response Dave heard from readers on this show was about half as much as the first show, which isn't a good sign for potential PPV buys, but it was also expected. No one knows the actual numbers for the first show yet. Dave has heard estimates anywhere from 25,000 to 80,000 buys. Regardless, just from anecdotal research, the second episode is probably looking at around a 50% drop from whatever the debut did. Jarrett vs. Scott Hall was passable, but everything else was terrible until the main event. Bad production, no graphics, bad camerawork, half the stars are no-names to all but the most hardcore fans...it's becoming very apparent how much of a stranglehold WWE has on American wrestling and how difficult it's going to be for anyone else to gain a foothold. The atmosphere was awful (remember, this was taped after the first show, so the half empty building had already sat through several hours of this already). The lingerie battle royal, on PPV, was less risque than what WWE does on network TV every week, with women who don't have a fraction of the star power. Dave desperately wants to see an alternative company make it, but this is 2 weeks in a row of a show that felt like WCW Thunder: dead crowd, bad show, with only one redeeming Lucha-style match to save it. That being said, the match was as good as any match he's seen this year and for that reason alone, Dave can't give the show a complete thumbs down. But they've got a steep mountain to climb if they want to survive.

WATCH: Low-Ki vs. Jerry Lynn vs. AJ Styles vs. Psicosis (TNA Weekly PPV #2)

Taping for the 3rd season of Tough Enough has been postponed due to Kelsey Grammer. Yup. The plan was to film the show over a 9-week period from July-September at a home in Malibu, in the neighborhood Grammer lives in. Grammer, along with several other neighbors, expressed concern about disruptions in the usually quiet neighborhood and found a municipal code that restricts filming in the area, noting that any filming can only take place during a 14-day period. Grammer and his neighbors went to the city council who voted 5-0 to enforce the code. WWE had already spent more than $100,000 on pre-production in the area but now may be forced to find a new location to film. If they can't find a similar beachfront location, they may just move it back to Stamford like they did before.
Diamond Dallas Page's in-ring career is officially over, after his insurance company and WWE management all decided to listen to the doctors because his back is a mess. Lloyd's of London informed DDP this week that if he wrestled again, they would terminate his insurance policy. Vince McMahon and Jim Ross agreed, after receiving letters from DDP's doctors recommending retirement. He still has 2 years remaining on his contract and is expected to stay with the company in a different role, perhaps announcing, though DDP has said he would be interested in a public relations role. From here, Dave recaps DDP's career as if he died, full obituary style. It's a long piece on every major storyline and angle DDP was ever involved in, but it's not particularly newsworthy. Great read though.
Dave has seen the recent PRIDE show that was headlined by Don Frye vs. NOAH star Yoshihiro Takayama and hoooooly shit. Original reports of this fight were that it was one of the best in MMA history. Now that Dave has seen it....yeah. "You could have said the first two minutes of the match were the greatest two minutes in the history of MMA, boxing, kickboxing, pro wrestling and just about anything short of sex, and not have been disappointed, because it was," Dave writes. He says it was the fight of the year but he also hopes we've seen the last of these two men in PRIDE. Takayama took a merciless beating because he's all offense and no defense but he can take a punch. It makes for exciting fights, but he's going to get seriously hurt fighting like that some day. And Frye, who has been doing this for years, also needs to face reality at 36 years old after the beating he took in this fight and against Shamrock a few months back. Basically, both men are the type of guys who will go in there and die in the ring before they give up and that's not good. And stepping away from the sport after this, arguably one of the greatest fights in MMA history, would be the perfect time to escape with their health still relatively intact (I posted this in last week's Rewind, but it deserves to be seen again).

WATCH: Don Frye vs. Yoshihiro Takayama - PRIDE 2002

Ratings news: Raw was the lowest rated show in over 4 years, so that's not good. And Smackdown didn't fare much better. And in fact, the Jeff Hardy vs. Undertaker ladder match (more on that in a bit) was an outright disaster, with viewers tuning out in droves, despite how well the match seems to have gotten over with fans. Overall, more than 1.1 million viewers tuned out during that particular match, a staggering loss, to the point where Dave actually wonders if there was a clerical error from the Neilsen ratings people or something. It also shows how little people care about the Hardyz right now and Dave thinks Jeff in particular needs to go away for awhile.
The wrestling war in the U.S. may be finished but it's still boiling over in Puerto Rico. In noting the TV ratings for both WWC and IWA, Dave mentions that for the first time since it was founded in 1973, Carlos Colon's WWC promotion is solidly in 2nd place. IWA is on fire right now in Puerto Rico, outdrawing WWC in both TV ratings and live crowds.
Eric Bischoff had meetings this week with Keiji Muto and Motoko Baba of AJPW, but it appears that the meetings didn't lead anywhere. Dave talks about how a lot of Japanese companies like to try and work out deals with the U.S. promotions and promoters because it gets good coverage in the magazines and newspapers and makes them appear like a major, international brand. But ultimately, the deals never seem to go anywhere. Muto and Ms. Baba were in Hawaii a few weeks ago meeting with people in WWE for the exact same reason. Bischoff does have interest in any idea that comes along if it's viable, but he's told friends he doesn't see anything viable coming along because TV networks aren't interested in wrestling right now. In order to get a real product off the ground, Bischoff estimates you'd need a $75 million commitment from a TV network and even then, it's not guaranteed to succeed and if it fails, whoever approved it at the network would probably be looking for a new career. So it's a huge gamble that none of the networks want to take, which means there's nothing viable in the wrestling world right now for Bischoff to get involved with (oh, I suspect he'll find something new to do in a few weeks...)
Hayabusa announced plans to start his own promotion called WMF (Wrestling's Marvelous Future), or FMW backwards. He will appear in public as Hayabusa for the first time since his career-ending injury last year that left him paralyzed.
Women's indie wrestler Ms.Chif is a genetic research scientist by day and was featured on a news show discussing her work on the Human Genome Project. Dave goes into what this is and how groundbreaking the project is and how it could change sports forever due to the way they've been able to engineer muscle mass in lab rats and things like that. A couple weeks ago, Road Warrior Animal and Keiji Muto put together an indie show in Atlantic City featuring a bunch of washed up 80s names from the past. I didn't mention it because it didn't seem like a big deal but some fun news coming out of it: everybody's check bounced. Even Road Warrior Animal's check, because he was working with some other guy who was acting as the promoter. Needless to say, a bunch of wrestlers are pretty pissed off, in particular at Animal who they all know and trust and thought he wouldn't allow everybody to get fucked over like this by some snake promoter.

Dave saw a tape of the latest Ring of Honor show and says it was as good a show from top-to-bottom as he's seen from any promotion in the world all year. Several 4-star level matches. AJ Styles, Low-Ki, Bryan Danielson, Spanky, Amazing Red, Doug Williams.....Dave sees star potential in all of them and thinks Low-Ki and Danielson in particular could be cult superstars in Japan (especially if Danielson puts a mask back on)
Deathmatch wrestler Necro Butcher nearly had to have his arm amputated after a match with Mad Man Pondo left his arm punctured with a light bulb tube. Here's the spot. NSFL, obviously.

NWA president Jim Miller is expected to get involved with TNA in an on-screen role. Miller is currently a huge heel for Zero-1 in Japan but for now, the plans are not for him to do the same in TNA. Reportedly, they want to avoid doing the heel commissioner gimmick that WWE does constantly and that everyone else has been copying ever since.
Terry Taylor had talks with TNA about coming in but they only wanted to pay him $500 per week to work the gorilla position at the shows, and he turned it down.
TNA has signed a new wrestler named Monty Brown, who has been wrestling on the indies in Michigan under the name Alpha Male (god I wish that guy had gotten the chance to live up to his full potential).
AJ Styles was on Observer Live this week and talked about why he chose not to sign with WWE. He said the offer they gave him was for only $500-per-week and he couldn't justify uprooting his family from Atlanta and moving to Cincinnati for so little money. His wife is currently in college in Georgia and that also played a role in wanting to stay where they are. Aside from wrestling, Styles is currently working full-time as a landscaper because even at the level he's at, as one of the hottest stars in the indies, there's very little money in pro wrestling outside of WWE.
Lots of news on Vince Russo. For starters, his lawsuit with Hulk Hogan has not been settled yet, although Russo has said he would be agreeable to working with Hogan. As for Hogan, just like everybody else, he was blindsided by Russo being re-hired by WWE and, just like everybody else, his reaction was pretty much, "WTF? No. Fuck that guy." There also appears to be no truth to the rumor that WWE rehired him in an effort to quash a potential tell-all book. Dave doesn't buy any of those conspiracy theories. He thinks the answer is as simple as it looks: Vince McMahon realizes the writing is in a rut, he's panicking, and he's going back to what worked in the past. And most recently, that was Vince Russo. So there ya go. In an interview on WWE.com, Undertaker was asked about it and was also negative and said if he was McMahon, he wouldn't be so forgiving on people who walked out on the company like Russo did, and compared it to Austin walking out. So seems like Taker isn't too keen on Austin right now either. Triple H was more diplomatic and just said basically, "Hey, whatever is good for the company." But his girlfriend, Stephanie McMahon, is the current head of the writing team and she's made NO secret about how pissed she is over Russo's return, so you gotta figure Triple H is just trying to play it cool. Jim Ross also commented on it, admitting he doesn't have much personal respect for Russo, especially after the way they mocked him in WCW, but also said he's okay with whatever is best for WWE. So that's where it stands: Russo is still basically a consultant who may or may not be taking over as head of creative if/when Vince finally decides to make a change. And in the meantime, fuckin' nobody likes him or wants him around.
WWE seems to have finally realized that building Raw so heavily around Ric Flair in 2002 probably isn't the way to keep your product feeling hot and fresh. Flair has basically been positioned as the focal point of Raw, as both heel and babyface, for the last few months. And he was even scheduled to work main events on all upcoming house shows (4 nights per week). As much as Dave loves him, even he realizes that, at 53 years old, building around Flair as your top full-time babyface headlining all the house shows isn't an ideal solution. So he wasn't used on Raw last week and was only used this week in a brief segment to help get Lesnar over, and his house show schedule has been cut back as well.
Notes from Raw: the show opened with Lesnar issuing an open challenge, mocking the Kurt Angle/John Cena open challenge match from Smackdown a few days earlier (more on that in a moment). Dave thinks this is a tease for an inevitable Lesnar vs. Angle feud (indeed, Wrestlemania 19 is on the horizon). Ended up being answered by Flair, who got beat by Lesnar. More of Trish Stratus (and Jackie Gayda this week, for whatever reason) humiliating Molly Holly for being "fat" and pulling her pants down to reveal her wearing granny panties. This fuckin' company, man. They announced Chris Benoit is now a member of the Raw roster, without even bothering to try and give an explanation for why or how. The last year of WWE has shown a staggering level of complacency since WCW folded. No competition, so no need to put any effort into telling stories that make sense. Because what else are you gonna watch? Fuck you, that's what. X-Pac was shown knocked unconscious backstage, causing the rest of the NWO members to freak out and leading Dave to joke that Scott Hall used to be unconscious backstage all the time and no one seemed to care then so what's the big deal? Then the UndertakeJeff Hardy match which Dave really liked and says built to the finish well and the live crowd was super into it. But man, the TV ratings fell right off a cliff during this match. It ended with Undertaker winning and then shaking Jeff's hand to show he respected him and to help Taker's babyface turn. Dave thinks it was a great angle, but on the flip side, they just had Undertaker do the same thing on Smackdown last week, shaking John Cena's hands and endorsing the new rookie, and having Taker do this for 2 young guys in the same week kinda lessens the impact of the moment the second time. Also, as great an angle as it was, Jeff Hardy isn't salvageable right now. He needs to go away for awhile and come back with a fresh character. The Hardyz in general have had almost negative momentum lately and an Undertaker handshake ain't fixing that (yeah, Jeff was so mentally checked out at this point. He needed help, not an endorsement.)
Notes from next week's Smackdown: this show hasn't aired yet but Dave has reports about an UndertakeKurt Angle match where the finish was totally botched. After the show was over and all the fans had left, they sent Angle and Undertaker back out there and had them redo the finish. They put a bunch of employees and people in the front row and then filmed the end of the match using mostly closeups so you couldn't see that the rest of the arena was completely empty. Gonna be interesting to see how it looks after editing (I just watched it on the network and they end up using the original ending that Dave describes. Didn't look particularly botched to me. Doesn't appear any of the close-up later shots were ever used that I can see EDIT scratch that). Also, Hogan and Edge won the tag titles. More on all that next week.
Notes from THIS week's Smackdown: one of the best WWE shows in a long time because it showed an actual focus on pushing new talent, with Dave saying this is the first time in a long time that he's seen light at the end of this dark tunnel WWE is in. The show was mostly built around the debut of OVW wrestler Prototype, using his real name John Cena. He was brought in to answer Angle's open challenge, and you'd expect a squash, but instead they had a hell of a competitive match and Dave says Angle is the best wrestler in the business today because he carried Cena to what was easily the best match of his young career. Afterwards, everyone congratulated Cena, with Undertaker giving him the big endorsement. Rico was out next and he and Cena were actually a great tag team in OVW, with a ton of chemistry. But Cena is now being groomed to possibly become a big star, while Rico is basically dead in the water with this hair stylist gimmick. Batista also finally got a chance to look good without this stupid Deacon gimmick hampering him. Chris Jericho vs. Hogan was the best match Hogan has had since his WCW days when he was still a babyface feuding with Flair.

WATCH: John Cena debuts against Kurt Angle - Smackdown 2002

X-Pac and Kevin Nash are at it again, getting a finish changed to a match on Raw last week. The Booker T & Goldust vs. X-Pac and Big Show match was supposed to end with Booker T pinning X-Pac. But Pac and Nash went and complained again and the finish got changed to Big Show pinning Goldust. It was a little bit of a bigger deal this time than the last time because WWE is making an actual attempt to push new stars and Booker T is one of the ones they're focusing on building. He needs big wins, and having the finish changed on this one directly hurts Booker.
John Cena didn't receive word that he would be debuting on Smackdown until about 3 hours before the show began. He had been on the road doing house shows with the Smackdown crew, so he was already there and they made the call to throw him on TV (and, while they were at it, base half the show around his big debut). Having him use his real name was also a last minute decision, with programs printed up for the following week still advertising him as "Prototype."
WWE's Divas Undressed special was canceled by TNN at the last minute and did not air as scheduled. TNN determined that it was full of "gratuitous sexual innuendo and was exploitive of women," leading Dave to wonder who TNN thinks they've been working with all this time? "Gratuitous sexual innuendo and was exploitive of women" is what TNN paid all that money for when they stole them away from USA. What'd they think they were getting with a spin-off called "Divas Undressed?" (I think this did eventually air somewhere, it's out there online if you look for it).
Chris Benoit has been fully cleared as of the beginning of this month and should be back in the ring wrestling again any day now. He's been told he'll have to adjust his style some because he can no longer take bumps on his head and neck like he used to.
Hulk Hogan did an interview with a Virginia newspaper and it was hilarious. He pretty much framed his return to WWE as Rock leaving to go make movies and so Vince called Hogan to come save the company in Rock's absence. Oh that's how it went, is it? I see. When asked about Rock's Hollywood success eclipsing his own, Hogan had a response for that too. Basically, Hogan claimed he was competing with Stallone and Schwarzeneggar when he was making movies, whereas Rock has an open field with no real competition in the action movie star department (this is around the same time Vin Diesel and Jason Statham were becoming household action star names so I dunno about all that).
WWE sued a small New Hampshire record label called Stone Cold Records for obvious reasons, arguing that the name creates confusion in the marketplace and interferes with WWE's own Stone Cold marketing. Dave thinks this is funny just because this is the EXACT scenario that led to the WWF/WWE name lawsuit. In that case, of course, WWE was arguing the complete opposite. Anyway, the owner of the record label (which was formed in 1999) says he'd never heard of Stone Cold Steve Austin until a WWE lawyer called and that he doesn't watch wrestling (this lawsuit drags on for months).
Construction is underway at WWE Niagra Falls, a new entertainment complex being built there which will have a restaurant, rides, indoor laser tag, etc. They hope to have it open in the summer (this ends up lasting for almost 10 years before it finally closed in 2011).

Everything about this bag feels expensive. It is beautifully made and I am still not convinced it’s not auth. When I opened my package I couldn’t believe my eyes. Or my hands!

The leather is so soft, smooth, and dare I say “buttery”? I know. I know. But there’s really no other way to describe it. It’s so buttery I scratched it with my long nails by accident. Dang it!
The hardware has nice weight and the perfect gold tarnish effect to it. The turn lock feels like sturdy and like it will hold up for ages. I love twisting the turn lock. The PEARL! Omg, it glides effortlessly just by a simple push of the tiny interlocking Cs and instantly adjusts for the perfect length.
The stitching is immaculate throughout the entire bag. No thread out of line or out of place. The back pocket lines up perfectly to the quilts of the bag. The serial number sticker is perfectly placed and follows the correct date code of a 2019 production date. Even the packaging is great. I was not expecting this at all since most reviews said you had to specify packaging and pay extra. I didn’t really need it but was pleasantly surprised to see it.
Stamping is clean, defined, and perfectly centered. Not blurry like I was expecting for a rep. Both YKK zipper's work smoothly.

NONE!!! But I will list one tiny detail that I should have noticed in the PSPs that really is no big deal to me. There is a small dent in one of the quilts on the left inside of the bag. I only saw this when I opened the bag but looking back it was definitely visible in the PSPs. If I push it out from the inside of the bag the dent gets smaller. I feel it will eventually bubble up again. I will massage it daily until it goes back to normal. I will deduct -.10 to myself as buyer for not noticing this in the PSPs (is this allowed?)

Never seen the auth in real life but comparing it to my auth Chanels, the craftmanship is 1000% up to par. & comparing it to the auth photos on the Chanel website, these bags look identical. I do not have the expertise as most of you Rep Ladies. The only knowledge I bring to this table is my collection of auths and experience in the super low end rep tier. All I can say is if purchased this bag on eBay and they claimed 100% authentic, I would not second guess it for a minute. Thankfully I didn’t because that would suck.
Comparing to the photos of the auth online the chain has the same tarnish effect in light gold. The number of rows on the quilts vertically are the same for 7 total, and the quilting matches up perfectly. They both have 8 total stitches per quilt, and the CC turnlock is centered in the same place. The leather appears to have the same sheen, and there was no fufu smell to it. The pocket on the back also matches up perfectly to the pics of the auth. The interior color is also the same light gold and the serial sticker is in the correct place. I see nothing out of place when comparing to photos of the auth.

50x Profit SPAC Warrant Possibility - DO YOUR OWN DD

I believe I have identified a possible 50x profit or greater warrant play. The problem is, it isn't sexy. It isn't an EV bus with online gambling terminals to keep tourists occupied on their way to outer space. Also, this is unlikely to return 50x your money in the next 3 months, like the super SPACs did this year, but over the next two to 3 years, if at all.
This is a high risk, high reward play. To abuse a baseball metaphor, you will either strike out, or hit a monster home run. My instincts are that there is a less than 10% chance of 50x, and a greater than 50% chance of losing money. But honestly, there aren't many opportunities where you can see a clear path to a possible 50x return which basically involves nothing going wrong, rather than everything going insanely right.
I am intentionally posting this after market close on a Friday, so potential investors will have plenty of time to read this, research it, and come to their own conclusions. Once again, I am not an investment advisor, all of this is my own opinion and my own research. For everyone who didn't stop reading right there, congratulations. Pharmaceutical companies that aren't peddling potential COVID cures aren't drawing a lot of attention nowadays. But that's how you make out sized gains; you see the potential before the broader market figures it out.
From Tenzing's S-1 registration: "Parag Saxena, our Chairman, has been part of direct investments in companies that have created hundreds of thousands of jobs and that have an aggregate market value exceeding $500 billion as of June 2018 in a career spanning over 30 years. Mr. Saxena is a multi-year member of Forbes’ Midas list, which ranks the World’s best technology investors. He has a strong track record in raising capital and successful investments in both public and private markets around the world.". That statement alone was enough to convince me to dig into the details of this deal. Here is the DD I have come up with:
First, the warrant basics. There are 6,325,000 public TZAC warrants currently outstanding. Each warrant entitles the holder thereof to purchase one ordinary share at a price of $11.50 per share. These warrants will become exercisable for $11.50 as soon as the business combination is completed. Warrants can be called for redemption " if, and only if, the reported last sale price of the ordinary shares equals or exceeds $21.00 per share, for any 20 trading days within a 30-trading day period ".
Reviva Pharmaceuticals has more than one drug, but the one that will drive returns on this stock is named Brilaroxazine. Brilaroxazine has successfully completed global phase 2 clinical trials for schizophrenia. The global market for schizophrenia drugs is about $8 billion per year. The drug is also entering phase 2 trials for bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, pulmonary arterial hypertension, and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. The combined global markets for those ailments is about $42 billion per year. So, IF Brilaroxazine makes it through all of the trials, and can take 1% of the global market for those maladies, that would be about $500 million in sales, which wouldn't be terrible for a $120 million company.
The TZAC / Reviva business plan is to take $34 million in Tenzing funding, along with $5 million in debt financing and $5 million in licensing deals in Asia and South America, to pay for the phase 3 trial for schizophrenia in the U.S. as well phase 2 studies for other maladies. How long that will take isn't spelled out in the presentation, but they do mention G&A expenses for 2 years in the budget estimates for the studies.

However, it was the chart on page 10 of that presentation which really caught my eye. One of the "Comparable Companies in Neuroscience" is Karuna Therapeutics Inc, which is listed on NASDAQ as KRTX.
According to this website, Karuna Therapeutics had 19 employees as of Jan 1, 2020: So it is not a large company.

Karuna Theraputics is also developing a drug targeting schizophrenia. Karuna's drug is KarXT. Karuna recently reported 2nd quarter 2020 results. The earnings release lists the upcoming clinical trial process for KarXT, and also shows that Karuna has $368 million in cash and cash equivalents on hand to fund their R&D and these trials.

KRTX stock was trading below $12 a share in Oct 2018, and was at $18 per share when that news was announced. By one week later, the stock was trading at $85, after hitting a high of $124 on Nov 19th. Despite early investors getting the chance to take profits off that huge gain, if you check the charts, you'll find KRTX has been trading in the range from $65 ( March COVID low) to $110 ever since.
The link for the investor presentation for Reviva is listed above. Compare the chart on page 12 of the Reviva presentation with the chart on page 17 of the Karuna presentation.
Reviva's drug Brilaroxazine is just as far along in development as Karuna's KarXT, and may be effective for more ailments than KarXT. In fact, KarXT was being tested for "Pain", it failed that trial:

So, these are similarly sized companies, developing medications targeting many of the same ailments. Karuna is much better capitalized, at the moment. Karuna has $368 million in cash, TZAC will have $34 million. Both are at the same point in clinical development.
Karuna has a $2.2 billion market cap, while Reviva will have an initial market cap of $120 million. Karuna has a market cap almost 20 times larger than Reviva. Even after backing out the cash on hand, Karuna is valued over $1.8 billion, that is still 15x what Reviva is being valued at.
So, what does all of this mean? Well, right now, TZACW has been selling in the 30 cent range. 50 times that is $15. Is it possible for TZACW to hit $15? That would mean TZAC would need to rise to about $27 per share. At $27 per share, TZAC would have about a $325 million market cap. That would still be about one-seventh of Karuna's market cap.
Also, take a look at the chart on page 10 of the Reviva investor presentation. The three "comparable" companies show the market caps when they were listed on the public markets, as well as their market caps today. Notice that all 3 companies have tripled or better the initial market cap. If Reviva can do that within 5 years, Reviva will sell for $30 a share.
Will any of this happen? We're back in the batter's box. Strikeout, or monster home run?
Here are the major risks:
1). The merger falls through.
This is always a risk with SPAC mergers. No date for the shareholder vote has been set. However, TZAC did post a S-4 form on 8/12. That form is both the preliminary prospectus, AND the registration form which will register the common stock underlying the TZACW warrants. TZACW warrants will be exrcisable as soon as the business combination is completed ( NO 30 day or longer waiting period! ). And TZAC has already filed the paperwork with NASDAQ to reserve the tickers RVPH and RVPHW. So far, at least, TZAC is progressing nicely towards the shareholder vote. The deadline is September 28, 2020.

Also, now that they have a funding path to proceed, Reviva has ( I believe this is what this page shows ) filed to begin Phase 2 and Phase 3 trials:

On page 9 of the Reviva investor presentation, they show the budget estimates for these trials. The above seems to indicate Reviva has now registered to begin them. All of these are positive signs, but that is no assurance the deal does not fall through.
2). Brilaroxazine fails the Phase 3 Clinical Trials.
This is also a real risk.
"Interestingly, the POS ( probability of success ) to get from Phase 3 to approval was only 59.0%. This means that around 2 out of every 5 drugs that reach Phase 3 “confirmatory” trials still fail to win approval for the indication being investigated. Even when looking only at lead indications, still about 30% of drugs in Phase 3 fail to reach approval."

Based on the above, there is a 30 to 40% chance that brilaroxazine might fail the phase 3 U.S. schizophrenia trial.
The drug did very well in the phase 2 clinical trials:
"Reviva has already successfully completed a multicenter, multinational phase 2 clinical study for brilaroxazine in patients with schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorders where it demonstrated robust efficacy with remission in acute schizophrenia and promising efficacy for comorbid negative, cognition, depression and mood symptoms. Moreover, brilaroxazine showed an excellent safety and tolerability profile compared to the placebo with no weight gain, metabolic, cardiac or movement side effects, which resulted in good acceptance and compliance."

However, the phase 3 trials will be much larger, and all will be conducted in the US (previous phase 2 clinical trial was global). So there can be no assurance that brilaroxazine will prove effective for treating any of the disorders that it will be undergoing trials to alleviate.
Also, it appears brilaroxazine passed the global phase 2 trials in 2015, and has now been languishing for 5 years. Why? Good question, for which I have found no firm answer. The U.S. phase 3 clinical trial will take approximately $21.5 million to complete. It very well could be that Reviva, which has been funded "through a series of equity financing led by hedge funds, family offices, and high-net-worth professionals associated with the pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and high-tech industries since its inception", simply didn't have that cash and could not find financing until now (perhaps because of the success of KRTX).
